Several years ago I read about a solitaire game called "Scheidungsgrund" and recreated it in PGS. Perhaps it' in PGS already although I haven't found it.

Scheidungsgrund translates to Grounds for Divorce but it's definitely not the same game.

Here are the wizard specifics:

Number of decks: 2
Tableau type: Forty Thieves
Number of tableau piles: 10
Face down cards: 0
Number of free cells: 0
Tableau building method: Build down regardless of suit
Empty tableau filled by: Any card
Move groups of cards as a unit: Yes, if in sequence
Group Sequence: down by suit
Foundation base: Ace
Foundation baes dealt at start: No
Foundation building method: up by suit
Dealing method: 1 card to each tableau pile

I would say that "Scheidungsgrund" is a medium to hard game. Some are dead easy and others I need many redeals before I can actually solve them. I try to persist though...

When I was on the train this morning I remembered that I forgot something:

- Five rows of cards are dealt to the tableau.

This patience seems to be somewhere near Napoleon at St. Helena only that cards are dealt 1 card to each pile.

Brita,
While the game you describe is not Grounds for Divorce, it's very close. The primary difference is that this game has foundations while Grounds for Divorce is a Spider type game without foundations. That's a big difference, but other than that they are virtually the same.

My guess is that since Grounds for Divorce is of German origin, these games have the same source or nearly the same source.

I did a little digging in my German sources and discovered the game called "Scheidungsgrund", but it is the Spider type "Grounds for Divorce" game, not this Forty Thieves type game. Of course, having two similar games with the same name is common.
