Paul, what about you? Have you won this one? If not, what's your best score? Mine's 117.

Good grief, guys. Your totals amaze me; I'm too
chicken to count. Currently, I'm in the toils of the General's Patience. That thing at the end, when the residue is shuffled, is a real killer.

Peg, I've got my score on game #206 up to 164. The key to winning seems to be to get out the 4 of hearts at the beginning of the game, and I can't seem to do it (yet!) Ken

The highest score I got is 143 (game #1074740864) and twice I got 133 (#1088092800 and #1240845184, Crossroads drives me crazy, I played 697 games until now and still start a new game each evening I get home...

Does someone know a game which can be won?

Hi Esme
game 429277857 can be won and is very difficult
remember you can bring cards back from the foundations and need to do this a lot
anonymous has put the moves in the forum somewhere else and I got the file from him/her but if still stuck I will give you the moves

Hi Paul!

Could you please email them to me? -> ruen@gmx.at

I tried it quite a few times and reached the score 147, which is the highest of all games for me but unfortunately far from winning...

Thanks in advance

I've played 1559 games of Crossroads and have not been able to conquer it, even using the game numbers above. The highest I've been able to score is 175 on game number 924268224. Is this one winnable? The hang-up seems to be the clubs. Can't get enough of them out...

I guess I'll give the numbers you folks furnished another whirl...sigh....

Joan,
Would you happened to have saved your game # 924268224 with the score of 175 ? I have not been able to approach that total. If so, could you post your partial solution ?
Thanks,

I can't get past 112 with 924268224 yet Larry. 175 is impressive. The absence of a 4C near the end is what's stopping my score from being a fair bit higher. Will plod on.

Larry, Richard, I've not saved it. Don't know how. If someone will explain I will be happy to give it another shot to record it. So far I've racked up 1633 games with no wins. The lowest scores I've gotten on Crossroads 924268224 was 107 and 111. Two other Crossroad games that I achieved 122 and 123 respectively on were 108329033 and 2039382015. Maybe someone can bring them home...I sure can't. <g>

Hi Joan, To save a game of Crossroads you need to have Crssroads open on your screen. Look up to near the top left of your screen and click where it says "Game". Then click "Save as" in the drop down menu that appears.
Once saved you can upload it with the "upload attachment" button just underneth this message.

I've done something wrong as I only scored 173 instead of 175 this time. Don't have any more time to play with it at the moment. Have failed miserably at trying to upload. I've saved the game. Its Crossroads_924268224.pgs. When I try to upload Windows tells me it is not a valid name. Any idea what I am doing wrong? I have Crossroads open on my desktop as well as the Forum

I have to assume you saved the game exactly as I mentioned in my post at 11:25. If this is so, you can check that it's OK. With Crossroads open on your screen, click on "Game" at top left of the screen and then "Open game" in the drop down menu. It should run as it's still within P.G.S.
If not, you'll have to replay it and save it again.
To upload it, you don't even need to have PGS open. Click on the Upload Attachment button (below) and then on "Browse".
See if that works first. If not, we'll try another route.

Yes, I can access the saved game. It opens with the last cards played.

When I try to upload Crossroads_924268224.pgs it comes up as "File Not Found"

If I type in the file name as above and "browse" it goes directly to my documents and the file isn't there. I've gone into C/Program files and Goodsol, and the file that comes up has an .exe. Where does saving it, put it? Would an .exe extension be right?

I'm going to call it quits for tonight. I'll look for your response in the a.m. and most sincerely thank you for all your help.

Joan, I had the most dreadful trouble when I got Vista. Perhaps you're running that too. No matter. I resolved the problem like so.
I went back into PGS and clicked "open game" and saw the game I wanted. I then renamed it. Afer the game number I inserted YEUK so that it would be easier to locate. Then I closed PGS and did a system search, asking windows to find YEUK. What it found was just a shortcut to it. I highlighted it and right clicked and asked it to open the file location. It did that but it was still only a "shortcut". I right clicked on this one and it came up with a dialogue box telling me that windows was searching for it. When it eventually found it, I clicked on "fix", and it opened the folder where it was contained. I then dragged and dropped it into "documents" where it was easy to find for uploading into the forum.
The trouble is that those helpful people at microsoft seem to delight in moving stuff around and hiding it and barring access to it. It's never in the same place twice. What worked in previous systems does not work on other ones. Those gentlemen have been compared to haemorroids by at least one Scottish person.
Try the rename route and let me know what spanners it tries to throw in the works.

Joan, All I can offer is encouragement. I, too, have Vista, and Richard's right: It's a bitch! Even with Richard's help, it took me a long time to figure it out (and I was an expert in XP), but play around with it, and eventually you'll figure it out! Ken

Richard, Ken, thank you both for the encouragement. I've been off line for a day...my ISP is almost as reliable as Microsoft. Richard I've printed your suggestions and will proceed hopefully to YEUK. <g> I'll post results as soon as I conquer.

Meantime if you're playing the game, it starts off good, gets to a mediocre middle, and in the end game you have to take away and put back a lot in order to get a high score. The low clubs seem to be the hang-up and I haven't found any way to bring them out early in the game. I will report back soon, I hope.

The maximum I could get with # 108329033 was a score of 173 and waste of 19. If you are still able to post your partial solution to # 924268224 I would appreciate it.
Thanks

I finally was able to solve # 108329033. Hint: You can create openings in the tableau by NOT playing the aces to the foundations and moving sequences headed by Kings of the opposite color to the aces. Once the aces are played to the foundations, they can not be moved back to the tableau. Will post my solution later if anyone is interested.

Well done Larry. That's a ploy I've used successfully in a few games. I've won it too now, and any time I'm feeling like a challenge I'll see if I can do it the orthodox way.

Crossroads is rated as "very hard" for good reason Aimee. As you have discovered, having a winnable number is no guarantee that you will win it. There is a lot of skill involved.
Two things. Firstly you should turn off the "autoplay" in the "options" tab. This will ensure that the software doesn't play an adverse card any time there is a choice of moves. Secondly, you should be aware that you can take cards back off of the foundations and put them in the tableau. You can often save decent cards from going into the waste using this ploy.
Also read Larry's post earlier on this page....."Posted on Tuesday, April 01, 2008 - 6:11 am:"
Hope this helps.
