I have played 52 games of Empress of Italy and have never won. How can all these other people win- what am I doing or not doing?

Hello Susie
I have won it once with game 2099688448.

you must have autoplay turned off and concentrate on clearing the reserve and be careful not to play cards on the foundations even if you can if there is a card in the reserve that would go there later on .
try to keep the waste below about 30.
it is still not easy though
if you look at the above game you will see that 4 of the 3s are quite well buried in the reserve
but there are only 4 cards above 3 in the reserve to be cleared first the 5h 6d 8h and 7s so keep back at least 2 of the foundations of each colour only up to the 2 so that all the 3s have somewhere to go when they show
Hope this helps

Empress of Italy.
Don't think anyone has uploaded a game until now.
Paul's tactics are spot on. All I would add is that you should always play a card from the reserve when possible even if this means you have to ignore a column of cards in the tableau that you could otherwise have played. Always tke cards back from the waste when possible.

Do the sequences of cards vary when replaying same game?

The same game number will always give the same sequence of cards.

re sequence: I have played the some games over and over with different outcomes. Indeed ,having found one that is winnable I have played that lot of times in order to get a score, but it does not come out every time.I suppose I must play differently altho I try to follow the same play.

The cards in the pack remain constant in whatever game you are playing John, but there is an almost infinite number of permutations you can use to play them. It is possible to play the same hand repeatedly and get different outcomes each time. With some very difficult games there may only be one or two ways in which you can re-win them. We are constantly playing the same hands over and over to see if we can turn games around. Sometimes we can manage it but often we can't. If you win a game number once, you should eventually be able to win it again. That is often easier said than done.
Select any game number you want and run through the stock without playing any cards. If you write down the order in which they came out you can repeat this exercise as often as you like, but the cards will always come out in exactly the same order.

Sudbury, Ontario, Canada was entered as one location. Sudbury Ontario Canada was entered as the other one. Spell things differently and you get two or more sets of stats in the same table.

You have to download the file to your desktop. Maybe you have to change the ending to .pgs . Open then PGS and Empress of Italy. Go to File Open and open the just downloaded file. With the undo-button you can then see how it was played.

Thank you,Markus.I have downloaded the cipher file to desktop, but cannot make out with the rest.I need explicit directions(an idiot's guide ).I can see how the undo button could deconstruct a solution, but cannot get there.

Firstly right click on the solution above and copy the option "Copy link address". Then follow the link beneath this to the Malmaison page.

You can also copy the opened file contents and paste it in a text file and then rename it from .txt to .pgs. You can open it in pgs then.

I can score 162 with it after several replays. I doubt if it is winnable. There are two red tens at the start of the reserve. It takes ages to liberate them and by that time the waste pile contains too many cards.

If you are pasting my link into a box similar to my illustration John, and then clicking "Open", you must stay online until the cards get dealt out on your own monitor. This may take a minute or so.
After that you can either finish it yourself or save it. You can see the "Save as" option on the first screenshot. Opening it from there appears in the same drop down menu.
I've had that error message when I've nit saved it, made a few moves myself, and then tried to re-open it.
Get back to me if you are still having problems. We'll get it sorted.

Richard-Still no joy.I think my "copy and paste" actions are suspect.I do not have a "copy link address" button on right click menu of solution link, so I left clicked "save target as" and saved to desktop. Then right click on that icon, open Empress, click "game" and "open game".A box opens with a "file name" box with curser flashing.I am still online. If I click pointer in box with curser, menu is all greyed out,if I click in body of box I can click paste and get message "this folder already contains a file named Empress of Italy-etc. do you want to replace it",I click yes or no, and nothing happens.
If you would like to abandon this project please do so,I can live without it.Thank you for your patience.

As a race, the Scots are not good at giving up John.

We can live with the absence of the "copy link address" part. (Thanks again Mr.Gates. Fixing things that aint broken). This is your link........
../18/Empress_o f_Italy_234454417_John-10096.unk.

Copy it if possible. If not see below.Don't try to open or download it.
Another way to copy the link address is by left clicking on it. Then the file will open immediately with the link address in the search bar at the top of your screen. You can copy it from there. Now close the file and proceed to the two screenshots.
Next open up PGS as normal. Open Empress of Italy as normal. Then follow the instructions in my two screenshots.
Hope this works for you John. We are heading off for a few days R&R after a funeral tomorrow. I hope you've managed it before we return. Otherwise we'll have to try something else.

Here is a way, i did it in the past and worked:

I loaded the file down to my desktop. Then i changed the ending from .unk to .pgs . Then i opened PGS and Empress of Italy. Then Open from the Edit-title-bar (?) and opened the downloaded file.

I hope Richards or my discription will work.

Hello Markus. What worked was left clicking the link, and to my amazement it appeared in the address bar. I then followed Richard's instructions, and it worked.
I also tried renaming the file saved on the desktop from "unk" to "pgs" and pasting it to "open game" but it would not open.
I much appreciate all the attention given to my tech problems,by Richard and yourself.I am certainly learning some weird processes.
Although my solitaire skills are no better!

Ok, it worked. Great. Just for information. When you changed the ending, then you have first to open the game Empress of Italy in PGS and then you choose open game. That is always working properly when i download a file.
