OK ~ I have played this one 17 times..... Each time I end up with 2 or 3 Aces up top and very long strands of cards in red-black order, but something is always trapped. A red King, a black Ace.... OMG~ 766890944
but I did learn how to right B,EER

You need more beers. Ice cold beers in a tall glass..... and a toasted cheese sandwich wouldn't go amiss either.
I look at the deal and try and identify the biggest problems. Any pairs of the same value means trouble. (Two black sixes, etc). You usually have to try and split them up into different columns as soon as you can. Identifying which column to attack first is the biggest problem. That's just trial and error until you get a break. And when you get a break.....hit the fridge.

Hi Donna, I trust that you had a nice Christmas.
I am still unable to give you a present of a solution to the above game. I'm hoping that Trisha comes to our rescue as it's starting to bug me too.
Sorry to hear that your school may close. As yourself and your husband already have the appropriate titles, you should direct an endless torrent of aggro in the direction of those responsible. Don't give up. A few months ago someone hundreds of miles away annoyed me by his lack of respect for the environment. When we returned home I contacted local government departments twice and was told nothing could be done. I then wrote to the First Minister for Scotland who pulled some strings and had the police on the guy's doorstep p.d.q. If you can do nothing else, make their lives a complete misery.

I don't think it's winnable Donna despite spending a lot of hours on it. Too many of the face cards are buried under other cards that you can't use. Both sevens of hearts are trapped behind face cards too, which means that assembling complete runs of cards is very difficult.
I have won this game number in Challenge Freecell but it doesn't look possible with the Kings Only option of SCF.

Yes I've given up, and yes I've been to the fridge. I discovered something interesting though. I don't normally appreciate champagne, but it tastes a whole lot better when you get it for free. Liz came home with two at $65 per bottle. Being discontinued! Thank you God! You certainly move in mysterious ways. Mind you, if we could turn water into wine, we'd be moving in peculiar ways too.

I object to the "woman bashing" that is going on here. You all have obviously realized that we are all "she who must be obeyed." I hope you know this is a quote from one of my heroes~ Rumpole of the Bailey. At some point, you must know you are fighting a losing battle. Otherwise you would be speaking to your wives instead of spouting off on a card playing website! (although, your banter is quite entertaining) Let's get back to business....

Give them the once over before you start them. If they look ugly, just move on. What's killing the current one is the two black nines together in one column, and both the black jacks being well buried. It's possibly impossible to resolve. All I seem to do is create other equally nasty problems elsewhere in the tableau. Never mind. It wouldn't be so worthwhile if they were all simple.

Richard,
Not so. It is solved! All I remember is that the column on the left starts with the K clubs. When I finally did it correctly, the Jacks and nines just popped out. The solution invoved a LOT of movement. How can I save a game in a file like you do?

Well done again Donna! This type of game certainly seems to be your forte.
Saving games is very easy. You can save any game as often as you like whilst it's still on your screen. With a SCF game in front of you, look up to the top left of your monitor and you'll see "File". Left click on that and a menu drops down. Highlight "Save as" and left click. A new window opens and you'll see that PGS has already inserted the appropriate file name for you. We tend to add in a distinctive name either before or after the game number to make it stand out, but you don't have to. Just left click on the box where it says "Save" and that's your lot. Easy peasy. That window will disappear and you'll be back into SCF.
Now any time you've got a SCF game open on your screen, you can left click on "File" and select "Open game" in the menu that drops down. Just highlight the saved game you want and click on "Open". That window will close and the saved game will now appear on screen. Whatever game had been there prior to that will vanish as if it had never existed, and won't even show up in your stats. A Cheats Charter, not that I'm suggesting you'll use it inappropriately. Others do.
Give it a bash and let me know how you've got on.

I've thrown in the towel with 1812853247 now. The second column is impassable. Both black threes obstruct both black nines. You damage the tableau too badly by trying to access the nines, and create bigger problems elsewhere.
If it was me, I would take note of how many games I'd won and then delete my stats. You could even take note of all the winners so that you could replay them. This gives you a splendid target to try and beat next time round. You shouldn't be obsessed with having a perfect record. Many of the players who have have got them dishonestly. If every game was winnable there would be no point in playing PGS at all. It's just a reflection of real life.

Oh gee! That would be something different! After taking 7 strokes to get out of a sand trap today in a tournament and taking a 12 on the hole. I am a little on edge tonight. Silence is the the only thing I want to hear around this place.

Yes Ken, I'll be sure to mull that hackneyed old cliche over every day we're on holiday and I'm sitting in some nice cosy bar. That will be eleven evenings I'll have to contemplate it at length. It's a hard life. Why don't you ask your dad to take you out someplace? Get your wee sledge out.
I'll post some old unwon games to help take your mind off things. I'll expect to see your solutions when I get back. Missing you already.

Kenneth my friend, if only that was possible! That WOULD be a holiday to remember. A few years ago after my sister had died, we took my brother-in-law on holiday with us. We came back from the pub to resume drinking and had to open the last surviving cans of bee.r with a can opener as they'd been in the freezer longer that we'd anticipated. Oh happy days!

You just gave me an idea of where to have the family drop my ashes off. I should have quit on that hole. But on the next hole I did something almost as bad. One would think if I stuck with a bad game as long as I did that one, I could stick it out on some of the harder solitaire games. Ken, I think you should get on the plane right now and catch up with Richard in Scotland. I would like to hear those stories.

The road between that inn and the residential caravan we stayed in was pretty horrific.14 miles of very narrow and undulating road with a steep drop on one side. Numerous sheep on the road too. Although it was dark and misty, Charlie drove us back in record time, only slightly handicapped by the drink. We worked out later that we'd all bought 5 rounds! He said he was fit to drive and we'd drunk so much ourselves that we believed him.
Make sure your life insuranc.e is up to date if you pay a visit.
If they scatter your ashes around that sandtrap, they could all sit on the rim and toast your memory. Make a change for you, someone else sitting on your ash!

Not an error Mike, merely an obervation and a statement of fact. She is doing far better now. Back to abnormal again. She's got me making soups and stuff for her, and complains that she's got far too much food. She then gives some to a couple of neighbours. Two days later she's on the phone saying she's neding shopping! If it's not one thing.....

Aren't they just wonderful? Mine wanted me to fit a new door bell recently because she couldn't hear it. She's got her TV volume cranked up like a rock concert. I told her the only way she was going to hear the doorbell was if I wired it up to a stick of dynamite.

I'm not holding out much hope for this one Donna. I can't see how it would ever be possible to resolve the problems of having the two black queens deeply buried in one column, and their red jacks both buried in another. To access the queens you'd have to move the black ten from the same column up into a cell (as there can never be a red jack to put it on). This means that the red nine from the last column has nowhere else to go other than into another cell. I'll keep working on it, but I think it's hopeless.

I've figured out a method of doing it now.

Save the file to somewhere you can find it. "documents" for example. I had to added the .pgs extension before I saved it, and also had to change the tab to "All files".
Then you just open it as normal from PGS in Super Challenge Freecell and browse in "documents".
Could someone else please try this?

It's not your upload Trisha. (Above) "Oh oh! I'm getting the same with other uploads too". It's happening with every upload on this page, even the ones I uploaded myself previously. You have the correct extension (.pgs) but that is getting changed to .unk in the NEW download process. That's why I had to change it back half way through the process. Methinks Gregg has been messing with things in an effort to make it easier for newbies to understand. We'll have to wait for confirmation of that though.

Did you not get the little File Download window that I did a screenshot of above?
This may have something to do with the most recent Vista security updates. It still refuses to open the way it always did. It doesn't bother me unduly as I've already figured out how to use uploaded games. What concerns me is that it is going to further confuse those who've not mastered the original method. Now we'd have to establish which method their PC is going to present them with.
Sorry to wake you up Mike.

Thanks Ken. It's clearly something that either Norton or Vista Update have contrived to wind me up. It was working normally very recently. Ones at the top of this page with the Notebook logo still work the way they always did. No problem. As long as I know.

Why blame me? :-)

Seriously, I do not change anything having to do with the forum, so I have no idea what has been changed (although a different icon suggests that somebody has done something).

If I could work my will, I would have saved games download with the intended (.pgs or .goodsol) extension directly, but I have always gotten the '.unk' (unknown) file extension instead. (With the correct file extension, one would be able to simply click on a '.goodsol' file, select 'Open', and then have everything work as expected.)

Yes it's a pity that the file extension gets changed. Life would be much simpler if the files just opened as you'd intended. Anyway it didn't take me long to figure out how to get around the latest problem, so I'm cool about it, but not as cool as you've been of late!! And you've got wind too huh?

'Hallelujah'
The top two spots in Britain's Christmas singles chart were taken by covers of Leonard Cohen's 1984 song "Hallelujah," with "X Factor" talent show winner Alexandra Burke's new version beating Jeff Buckley's 1994 cover place on Sunday. There was a concerted campaign on Facebook to try to make Buckley the winner. It would have been ironic if it had been a dead heat as he's dead and she's hot.
In the wee small hours of the morning I don't much care how to spell hallelujah. Nor does Google apparently. OK Myke?

It has been a weird week for weather here. We started with more than a foot of snow on the ground, then the temperature got up to 62 degrees Fahrenheit (a record). All that snow turned into water, which caused flooding, and then a cold front came back with wind gusts of more than 60 miles per hour. (Thankfully, we were not among those who lost power.) Last night, we got a few more inches of snow (the light, crystally, crunchy, bitterly cold type).

Now it just looks like Winter in Michigan. :-)

Happy New Year!

Prince Philip is visiting an Edinburgh hospital.
He enters a ward full of patients with no obvious sign of injury or illness. He greets the first patient and the patient replies:
"Fair fa your honest sonsie face, Great chieftain o' the puddin race, Aboon them a you take your place, Painch,
tripe or thairm, As langs my airm."
The Duke is confused, so he just grins and moves on to the next patient and greets him. The patient responds:
"Some hae meat and canna eat, And some wad eat that want it, But we hae meat and we can eat, So let the Lord be thankit."
Even more confused, but trying not to show it, Prince Phillip moves on to the next patient, who immediately begins to chant:
"We sleekit, cowerin, timrous beasty, Thou needna start awa sae hastie, Wi bickering brattle."
Now alarmed, The Duke turns to the accompanying doctor and asks
"What kind of facility is this? Is it a mental ward?"
"No", replies the doctor. "This is the serious Burns unit".

Who wants to go looking for Puffins when there may be a huge storm coming up. Who will hang upsidedown over rushing water to get pictures of salmon swimming upstream. And who doesn't know why thy don't swim back downstream. Who will visit every public garden in Scotland and take pictures of empty benches and miss the giant Red Deer just to left of them. I have one about about nuts and squirrles but I better save that one. I realize I will get some response to this. So everyone be warned. This is all in fun. Richard is no madder than a few people. Let's exsalmon the facts Mike. If salmon didn't swim downstream there wouldn't be any salmon. The Atlantic Salmon, the "King of Fish", has the priviledge of swimming up and down Scottish rivers numerous times in it's lifetime. This is only possible as I've hung up my rods. It's peely-wally cousins in North America are so jealous that they refuse to make a second trip. And who could blame them?

Tricky as usual Donna. It took me a long time to figure out what you'd missed too.

Is it a little snowy there Richard? Heathrow is closed. One of my sons friends was suppose to leave for England today.

It's a wee bit snowy Mike. Cold enough for two T-Shirts. The south of England ground to a standstill today. In London not a single bus ran. There were no taxis, and as you have discovered, no planes either. No this was not the handiwork of Al Qaueda. It was just some snow. Pathetic really.

I am surrounded by a blizzard of inactivity. Did play golf this morning though. Felt like a pro for 5 holes. 3 under par. then the roof fell in. I know that doesn't mean anything to you. But it was fun for me.

Mentioning the word blizzard three times was tempting providence Mike. We've had about 5 inches of snow here in the last 4 hours. I swear we've had over 1000 birds in our garden today. I cleared two wide strips down to grass level for them and they told all their mates. They can get thru a kilo of food in half an hour and they line up on the phone lines and stare in our windows until I put out more. It's costing us a fortune in lard alone. I'm far too soft. It was only a couple of years ago that all 5 of our ski centres were closing down for good. By the looks of things now we'll be opening more. Funny old world.

Thanks for that Ken. Perhaps you should see how many birds you can attract. Don't wait until you're dead popular with the vultures. Caws for alarm if that happens.
