It's giving me a lot of grief too. No idea about my highest score though. The main problem that I'm hiting is the spades in column one. You'd have to keep the 5S in the foundations free to accept the six otherwise there won't be anywhere else it can go. Added to that is a 10S above it in the same column. May be unwinnable.

It's agonizingly winnable, and I was on the right track with the spades. I got the first column cleared (although I'd had others cleared in unsuccessful attempts). The hidden cards at the top of that column are 6D lower, and 4S higher. You'll know not to cover the 7D now.
Thanks for this one Ken. I spent decades at it.

This one reminds me of the Frankie Valli lyric, "So close, so close, and yet so far away". (It's from the song "My Eyes Adored You", and since I'm SURE nobody has ever sung it to you, you might not know it!)

Even with the clues provided, I was surprised how quickly your namesake managed to solve it. There are so many components that need to be in the right place that I thought for a long time that it was unwinnable.
To clear column one, at score 25, stock 1, waste 27, my foundations read, 4S,8C,3D,AD,5H,3C,AH,00.
Columns (lowest cards only) read, 10C, 7D, 5S, KC only,5H,5C,8H. See if you can find your way to here, then do NOT play the KC out of column 4 even though it would clear that column.
It's an absolute stinker, so if you want a decent partial, just let me know.

16 days huh? What's that in minutes? Not that you're counting. You should get one of those clocks that they used for the millenium countdown. You could get a few crates of be.er and get some party invites printed. Put the clock on top of the be.er, and the invites on top of the clock. But be subtle about it.

Got both of those, guys. Now try #1848620159. I'm banking on it being unwinnable due to the way the cards are stacked in column 1, but I've been proved wrong before. To give you guys a head start, the top four cards in col. 1 are AS, AH, 6H, and 4H. Good Luck!

You have developed a devious streak I see Ken. You cottoned onto the fact that I was just going to add an S to keepkeeper to make another word. If you add ING you get the other one. It's amazing how few people think of them though. Paul did well with his sweet-toothed. Hyphen or not, it's still a word.

Well maybe you're not a team player Mike! Come to think of it K2 has gone to Ground too. I'll see if I can find another one for you to Monkey around with.
We woke up to snow today. I expect it was a result of all the air turbulence making its way across the Atlantic. Is someone farting around with our weather? It's not good news for K2 though, although it's forecast to clear up by mid July. The snow, not the wind.

Richard, O Knower of Many Things, I was stupid enough to download a "recommended" Windows update, and after restarting, my computer does not look the same. I've changed the DPI, the color, the screen resolution, etc. but it still looks messed up. (Kinda like when somebody drives your car and adjusts your mirror!) Is there an easy way to restore it to default settings on the dreaded Vista?

Yes Ken, but if we've got snow in March!! you may not be out of the woods yet. I'll be keeping an eye on the Iowa weather forecasts (BBC World Weather) and crossing my fingers. If you get yours out, you can cross them too.

Hi Ken, Our posts crossed. Last time I looked on Windows Update site there was a Log of my recent activities, and I'm pretty certain there was an "undo" or restore feature there too. I do wish that windows would mind it's own damned business and ask my permission before it messes with my PC. A case of the tail wagging the dog if I ever saw one.
Do you have a system restore point in your PC? If so, ask it to restore to a couple of days back. Also you could disable the automatic update "feature", I'm pretty sure.

YES there is an uninstall feature there. You just highlight the dated "improvement" and you can nuke it. Good luck.

Glad the strategy worked for you Ken. I get very irate if my PC does it's own thing, so I know how you feel. "He who pays the piper calls the tune".

540030848 is probably the best Unlimited I've come across recently. It's a bit of an oxymoron but they're not easy to find.
Another oxymoron was just on TV. The longest sentence in the world? Answer, "I do".

To KenB, I've taken a shine to Unlimited but as I've said, good ones are hard to find. If you come across any please let me/us know. I'll do likewise. Your namesake likes to get clues when he gets stuck, so you'll likely get requests for them too.

I don't really know my time Ken. I started it late last night and then found I was missing plays all the time, so I restarted it this morning. If I'd to guess, I'd say about 30 mins. I knew it was a good game with all those clubs in the first column. Well done to both of you for solving it. I'd rate it as difficult, and I don't think Mike would dispute that. He has a point though regarding playing the game for ages without knowing if it could even be won. That's when my stubborn streak takes over. I'll see if I can find another one.
Now down to 1845 in the TI's Mike.

I had plenty of trouble with it Ken. It's a stinker. Nice of you to drop one my way!
The four of spades in column 1 goes up. You should reach a stage when you have column 6 containing 9,8,7 of spades, and column 7 containing 6,5,4 of spades. Leave the latter lot alone and put the first lot up to foundations. See if this helps first. If not, you know what to do...... beg.

Just in case Paul Forsdick is monitoring the posts, here is a question I heard on the radio today. You could Google it and ruin the challenge or you could pit your wits against it and maybe get it right. Just for the record, I got it wrong.

Richard, in what time zone is 23554929 an easier game? Because us people in EDT are completely stymied. The problem as I see it is that I can ALMOST win the game, but the Q of Hearts is buried in col 1, and in order to free it I need to use the King in col 4, but in order to free up a space I need to put it up in the tableau, so I'm screwed (like Mike's date!) Mike, quit counting your change and help me!

The 4C from column 4 goes up. The 4S from column 3 is the next of the two remaining 4's to go up.
You should get 5,4,3S in column 5. The remaining spades from the last column go up. The QC from column 3 goes up.
At 35/16/7 the columns read:- (bottom cards only) JD,JC,7C only,5D,3S,QC,7H.

No sooner had I finished gardening for the day, than we had to go shopping. Oh how I love going shopping with a woman They are so decisive. No matter how small the list of purchases is, we always find several new items we didn't even know we needed until they appeared in front of us on a supermarket shelf. Mind you, we had to have a good look around before we even reached this stage.
You now have my undivided attention Ken. If/when you recover your sanity, please avoid 23554929, as it has almost made me lose mine. It has devoured a lot of my time, and I've reached the conclusion that it probably can't be won. It's oh so close though. Should I have another go? NO!

Hi Mike, There are 7 tableau piles. You don't count the waste pile. The top card of column 1 is 4D and column 2 has the 2S. It was definitely column 3 that I cleared first. It had the 7C as the top card.

As usual you are correct. It is column 3 that I cleared first. I just didn't redo far enough back. I have to learn to leave the hints to you. Sorry Ken. My only excuse is that I was in a hurry this morning. First Doctor appointment was pretty much on time. Took about 45mins from the time I got there. Second appointment was with my Son's doctor. We got there on time. Were told he was an hour behind. We went to eat came back in an hour. Waited another 40mins and got in. Good grief. I won't chime in on going shopping with you know who. In after a loaf of bread and some milk. Out with 4 bags of stuff.

I know ALL about waiting for doctors. It actually got to the point when I got admitted to hospital every three weeks, that I booked myself in and then got a taxi to the pub. No kidding! I had 2 or 3 pints, a burger and chips, a few bets at the bookmaker next door and watched the racing on the pub TV. Ahhhh! The good old days.

You take care with those bears Mike. Watch you don't make a BooBoo and stick your toe somewhere unpleasant. And to K2, you'd better pray that Mike IS standing behind you if you're bending to pick up a bouquet. There are guys out there who would rather pick up haemerroids.

Just a suggestion. But don't turn up wearing lycra cycling shorts. They wouldn't look too good in the wedding album, particularly now you admit being as old as Mike and me. Did you know that Mike has to get special dispensation from the governor to go outdoors whilst it's still daylight?

You may have gathered from the lack of posts that my ISP has been being a pain again. It's given me the opportunity to finally get all the photos from my last holiday sorted out, and also to get to grips with 699277184. I was looking forward to tormenting you with it some more, but KenB has slayed the beast. Until two days ago I was convinced it was unwinnable, and wondered if Ken was pulling our legs, particularly with the mention of a "chain pulling report" in his post.
Excellent job Ken!! I doubt if there are any more Unlimiteds as difficult as that one. I'd rate that as Super League. I'd take my hat off to you, but it's too cold. We've had more snow, so I've been unable to get any more gardening done. Some cynics might say that it's come to my rescue. Shame on then.

If not given up completely yet, but I've got a splitting headache from looking at the screen. Now I understand what Mike means about frying his brain.

Richard, I feel your pain. Actually, I don't. That's my problem. My dad has neuropathy in both feet and legs, and for 10 years they can't find his problem. And now I'm starting to get it, but I refuse to be poked and prodded by doctors who have no clue!

I googled neuopathy and got a daunting number of medical conditions, so I'm none the wiser. Which one did you get lumbered with?
Normal doctors in the UK get over $2000 per week. Many more get a far above this. Do I grudge them this? Well, actually, now that you mention it, yes! They also seen to get more holidays than Santa.

Neuropathy does encompass a lot of conditions but for me and my dad it basically means that we can't feel anything. For me, it's just an annoyance, but for advanced stages like my dad, he has a hard time balancing and walking.

I do put my foot in my mouth on occasion. The doctor advised me to do this to stop me damaging it by kicking a$$ so often. He said I'd get broKEN metatarsels, and a rare condition known as Hallux puntiass americanus.
Mike is bound to know that too, as he clearly has an in depth medical knowledge that has enabled him to sweep away many medical tomes with his concise diagnosis. No wonder his wife runs a hospital when she has an oracle living with her. Does she ever ask for a second opinion? No doubt he'll let us know.

I'll let you know. As I have been around medicine for all these years I have learned a lot. It's a lot like watching a space shuttle launch. You then know how to build and launch one. My diagnosis is based on the fact that I am always falling down and I can't feel my legs. Unfortunatly I can feel the pain in my knees and back. BTW. My lovely wife NEVER asks for my opinion.

I found the second number considerably more difficult. There was more than a touch of irony in "a bit more". One man's meat etc. We find this regularly.
I assume that the clubs are posing the problem.
I put the 7C from 2 onto 1. The 3C from 2 went up followed by the 4C from 5 , and the 5C from column 2. The 10,9H from 3 went onto 2. I then built spades downwards on col 4 to free the 6S from col 3. Now 6C from 2, 7C from 1, and 8C from 3, all go up. I now had col 2 clear. I put the KH from the stock into the space. When the 9C appears from the stock it goes onto col 3, and the 8C,7C from col 1 go onto it. The clubs from 1 now go up. The next king to go into a space was the KC from the stock. Let me now if you've managed to follow this.
I've never got into "Lost" at all. It probably clashed with one of my regular programmes, so by the time I got round to watching an episode or two, I'd lost the thread.
Glad to see that Leona Lewis made it straight onto the top of the US album charts. She is the first British female ever to do this,( possibly even the first Brit solo artist?). So is there no truth in the rumoiur that Americans have no taste. (I'm just testing out my new stick).

Thank you for including me in your the sweeping generalisation re Cliff Richard. Serves me right for testing my new stick on you. I've never liked him. I find him smug and oily. I still cringe if I see old footage of him "entertaining" the crowd at Wimbledon when the rain came on. Fingers down throat time. All the old women love him, despite the fact that it's debatable if he's ever bedded his first one. Undoubtedly not the playground in HIS mind.

Hi all. Been busy. Yesterday had a golf tournament. Had fun for a change. Didn't make any money. But it was fun. It was also my son's eighteenth birthday. So we went out celebrating. Today had the pre-op for my eye surgery. Two hours in the doctors office for 15mins of exam. I almost told him I calling off the whole thing. Anyway. Solved the first two numbers. They were jsut the perfect tests for me. The second one was a bit tougher. I will give the new number a try. Unlimited is frustrating for me. I am never sure what I am actually doing.

I'll have to take my camera down to St.Andrews although I don't see what's so fascinating about different grass. I'll be sure to take sun glasses to prevent getting dazzled by the attire of coffin dodging American visitors. To tell the truth (for once) I wasn't that impressed the last time we went there, but, like you, I don't play golf. It looked pretty featureless to me. We were more taken with their Botanical Gardens and the Aquarium.

Both were good numbers for me. Once again. Just enough of a challenge to make it interesting. Missed a play the first number so it took me a little longer than it should have. Golfers don't wear funny outfits anymore. Except for Ian Poulter. Who is from someplace in the Commonwealth. I have to look it up. I would think the town of St. Andrews has only one claim to fame and that is the golf. But how would I know. I have never been there. And I play some sort of game similar to golf. At least I use the same tools. Just not very well. But I try to have fun. Had a birdie today. First putt I have made in three rounds.

Glad you enjoyed those two Mike. We all miss plays and frequently have to resort to the undo button.
As I rarely see any golf footage on TV, I've no idea what clothes they now wear, and I've never even heard of Ian Poulter. I reserve the right to conjure up those gaudy images from the deep and murky depths of my memory.
All games have one thing in common. If you enjoy playing them, it duesn't make a lot of difference if you're good or not. At least you still play.
St.Andrews has a Castle and a ruined Cathedral. It also has a Golf Museum. It's a lousy place to get parked, so we've been to neither..... yet.

Here is one I found. #2098690687. It gave me some problems.

Yes, it caught me out for a bit too. I've saved it in case Ken needs a hint.
Anyway Mike, it's been a while, how is the eye doing? Has it improved your golf?

The eye is coming along fine. The little bit of a line that was along the left side of my vision is getting smaller. It was the incision line. My eye sight has improved a lot. And my golf game has been better. Sadly, I am going through some putting problems. More practice is indicated. BTW. Did you bring any Haggis eggs home. I am sure you had room for two or three in the vehicle. It sure was quiet around here.

Sounds like getting that surgery was a good decision Mike. It's no laughing matter when wear and tear starts catching up with us. I'm sure your golf game will recover too.
I was tempted to bring home a haggis egg but thought that it wouldn't be fair on the tourists.
The guy who owns the gardens is a great character. After he erected the sign, he emailed a photo to a local rag who published an article. One or two of the nationals picked up on it too. He informed us that a car skidded to a halt in his car park and a large woman got out and "waddled" towards him. She said that she'd driven 200 miles just to see them. Apparently she'd been coming up to Scotland since she was a small girl and still hadn't been lucky enough to see a live haggis. She continued excitedly for ages, so much so that the owner began to think that she was now winding him up. It then dawned on him that she was being entirely honest and decided to enlighted her before she "dug her furrow any deeper". He asked her where she'd learned of the eggs and she replied that it was in her daily paper about four days ago. "So this is April 5th isn't it?" he prompted. It took a few minutes whilst she did the maths, the penny dropped and she turned and went back to her car without saying another word. Her face looked like "a bulldog chewing a wasp"
The same guy is in the middle of creating a "St.Andrews Garden" with everything having to be just blue or white. He admits that the only reason he's doing it is to annoy his English wife.
Yes it is desperately QUIET around here. We'll have to put a stop to that! Ken must be winning all his games at the moment, as even he's hardly made a post.

My eye only roves along the gantry in bars now Ken. (sigh). I landed up drinking Tasmanian 8eer in a nice hotel at Kingussie on our last safari. That's Kin-U-see. Did U see any worthwhile numbers lately?

Richard. It sounds like you and the haggis egg man would have a lot in common. Ken. I don't think Richards eye roves any more than mine. We both know the days of fulfilling some of our dreams is over. But there is no harm in looking. Now staring might cause some trouble. Tasmanian 8eer! What the heck are they serving up at those places you go to?

I've been playing Three Bears lately. It's a fun and challenging game but I haven't run into one yet that has stymied me, but stay tuned.

P.S. to Mike: They serve Richard Tasmanian 8eer because they can tell what a Devil he is!

Ha! I also had Belgian, Irish, English and 3 types of Scottish 8eers that night. It wouldn't be appropriate to tell you how many of each! I had a devil of a time though and no trace of a hangover. My bank manager got that!
It looks like my Super Challenge Freecell run is about to end at 57 with 2135519615. It looks unwinnable.
