USA 1:1 Argentina.
Excellent game. 88,000 crowd. USA goalscorer was that man Agudelo again. He will be more famous worldwide than Tiger Woods before he's much older.

I don't understand soccer, Richard. Does that mean that the USA was the winner over Argentina? Also, where are they playing? I have to say though that I like watching football more than soccer. I know most of you guys here on the forum prefer soccer, but here in the Midwest, I have yet to hear from anyone how much they liked the soccer game, but when football season is at its height, that's all I hear about.

Kathy, 1-1 is a tie. In soccer that is a good result, but in the good ol' US of A, we hate ties! That's why we have the saying, "A tie is like kissing your sister" (and have you seen Richard's sister?)

Too late to see my sister. You can't even dig her up. She was cremated.

Wikipedia says....... the game of football is any of several similar team sports, of similar origins which involve advancing a ball into a goal area in an attempt to score. Many of these involve kicking a ball with the foot to score a goal, though not all codes of football using kicking as a primary means of advancing the ball or scoring. The most popular of these sports worldwide is association football, more commonly known as just "football" or "soccer". Unqualified, the word football applies to whichever form of football is the most popular in the regional context in which the word appears, including American football, Australian rules football, Canadian football, Gaelic football, rugby league, rugby union and other related games. These variations are known as "codes."
It's a pity that whoever devised American Football hadn't chosen a name that was already in common use elsewhere. These days in the vast majority of the world American Football is practically unknown, whereas (Association) Football is played everywhere. Even tiny countries like Andorra, Monaco, the Faroe Islands, etc, etc, have international football teams, all playing by the same rules. It is understood the world over.
Argentina are regarded as having one of the best, most consistent football teams on earth. Anyone who can manage even a draw against them has done particularly well. There is nothing wrong with a draw. It happens in other sports too, notably boxing. You don't have to kill you opponent and take pictures to prove how well you've done. Your American Indians saw more honour in "counting coup" than killing enemies even when they had a chance to do so.

Compare these and you should grasp the significance of last night's result.
These are the FIFA rankings. Argentina on the left; USA on the right.

I for one can't wait Ken! The USA played well last night. They seemed to be faster and keener than the Argies.

BTW, Scotland are playing Brazil today. It kicks off in a few minutes. I guess we'll get hammered, but we always live in hope.

I guess we just live in different worlds. I grew up on football, especially college football. There have been a lot of movies based on football. There must be one or two on soccer, but I've never seen them. Are there any Americans on the forum who like me prefer football to soccer?

Sorry about your sister, Richard. I'm sure she was beautiful.

I just watched three minutes of a game between Manchester United and Bolton. Good grief. Bolton has Manchester running all over their defensive end and all of a sudden Bolton stops their attack and kicks the ball back to their own goalkeeper. Why don't I care anything about Soccer? And all the flopping around trying to get a foul. It did work once in fifteen tries in the three minutes though.

Martin Laird played very well. I watched the match for awhile. But had some other things to do. There is no outstanding player on the tour right now. There are around 20 guys who could win any week. BTW. If we ever get a new professional American Footbal team in Los Angeles I will recommend they be called the Yetis

Isn't he dressed a little like a Scotsman?

"Yetiland?"

Yes, Nessiland has changed to Yetiland and maybe we are talking with one nearly every day. Sometimes we even see a picture from him.
In this context: congratulations.

The hunter is very clearly a Bavarian Markus. The speed at which he takes aim is a dead give away.

I saw a documentary from Nepal three or four years ago. A two man camera crew accompanied "ONE OF" the king's yeti hunters on an expedition. They escorted him for a week or so but failed to locate any. Their escort had spotted one several times over the years. He showed the team a lair where he said he had disturbed one previously. There they found a single hair snagged on a tree root. It was examined when they returned home and the animal from which it came was "unknown to science".
