I noticed for the first time this morning, in a post I replied to, that the other person's IP was showing (at the left side, with the more usual other ID).

Is this a new glitch in your board software that should be looked after pretty quickly? Obviously IP's shouldn't be "broadcast" if at all possible. Normal procedure is for them to be accessible by the admin, possibly also mods, but by no one else.

IPs show for people who post but don't register a username on the forum. It's so that they can be tracked if they post spam, etc.

It's a feature of the forum software and I'm not sure it can be changed.

This tracking wouldn't be done by the public at large. While I'm writing this I see under this message "Your e-mail is optional". Is it - or don't people notice this?
