What is the difference between Beleaguered Castle,
Forty Thieves and Fan, for example ? Whatever it maybe, it's not enough to put them into separate categories. I think the way we arrange a Tableau
has nothing to do with real differences among some solitaires. Open those games and after a while you will realize that those games are essentialy the same games with some "cosmetic"
changes in card moving mechanism.
FreeCell is somewhat different with its free cells
of course. Flower Garden is still another kind
because of its reserve.
I think there should be a more understandable way of classifying solitaires. Why not keep Klondike
type (no Cells, no Reserves) and put Castles and Thieves and Fans into it ? Another type should be Cells type, still another one, Reserved type ?
How about Puzzle type, where Fifteen Puzzle would be a great candidate along with Tower of Hanoi ...
Next we would have Eliminators (I suggest naming them Arnolds, seriously )...
Waiting for your responses.
Regards,
