Saving games and opening them again later

I'm no expert, but this works in Windows.

This post was made mainly to assist someone with a particular Spider game, but the method is identical for any other solitaire game.

    Joy. Also works for MacOS.

Quick question. If you open a saved game & successfully win it from that point will the win be acknowledged by your climb mode stats & move you along to the next game?

Yes, it must do. You have never lost the game, you are only reloading a position that you've legitimately reached previously. We load saved games and try alternative moves all of the time. We even share them. Winning them from a partial is exactly the same as winning in the normal way. ☺️

  • Ah, relief...something in life that is fair! Again, thanks.

Alas, the answer is actually: No. The Mac Edition does not allow games to be opened in climb mode. You can save your progress from climb mode (except in the Mac App Store version), but you have to turn off climb mode to open saved games.

The reasons for this design decision were that 1) otherwise, a player could cheat by just loading saved games that were almost won and just making the final move(s), and 2) unless the deal number was exactly correct, climb mode would not be maintained properly.

Even more unfortunately, in verifying this, I just discovered a minor bug with major implications in the latest version of PGSME (3.56), so that will be fixed in the next update. Specifically, when saving a game, the program can lock up and require a force quit; the game is saved properly, but this is quite an inconvenience. Sorry about that.
