I loved Needle. I could hardly ever win a game, but who cares? And then one day I noticed that others had a 100% score. So I finally studied the rules. It was only then that I learned you could put cards back on the reserve. Now my score is 45% and still improving. I wonder how many games I do have to play to get a 99,9% score. No, please do not tell me....
But I miss my old rules. I tried to make a new game with the wizard, but I could not succeed. The same game, except you cannot put cards back on the reserve. Mr. Warfield, could you do it for me next version?
Thanks.

When you discover a method that you expect to improve your score drastically, the best way is to cancel you stats and begin from scratch.

I'll consider that for a variation. There is a harder version of Needle called Haystack that you could look at.

I just discovered Pitchfork. Only difference is that you do not start with aces, but with the first card dealt there.

And for Rachel: thanks for the tip, but I like it this way. Do you ever get bored with games you can win easily all the time? Now I can improve myself every game. Good for my self esteme

For Miriam--they are all impossible, or so it seems--Pitchfork, Needle, Haystack (that's funny, isn't it? "Needle" "Haystack"....)but now that you pointed out one way of possibly winning maybe they won't be so formidable.

I like the games that are challenges, though--I get bored with the games that are too easy---

Same here. Games that are too easy bore me and I stop playing them. But some games I find challenging even if I always win - for instance Trapdoor Spider and Mahjongg Spider. I also drop games that there's no chance to win or even to get ahead.

IT seems as though there are a few games in the colletion that are impossible--13 Packs is one--I have won it only once in over 6000 tries! I am not including the winning game numbers that I got from Paul. I mean in playing it strictly on my own, I have won it only once. THe Plot is another one. I can't win that one at all either. BUt I do like the challenges even though I don't keep up with them regularly except for 13 Packs.

Can anyone give me a winning strategy for Pitchfork. I'd like to win at least one game. It's not an open game, but should I just keep taking the losses until I find one I can win or try to get at least some points?

Game 185089281 is the only game I have won and looking at it again it is not too hard

Paul, I tried tonight before quitting for the day, but I kept getting stuck. The problem was getting the 3C in play. Maybe I'm too tired. I'll try again tomorrow. Thanks.

Paul, still can't make it. I'm stuck on how to get that 8C all the way from the last column to the third to the last column. I can almost make it but am stuck without anywhere to put the 4D so I can get to the 2S. Have been trying for an hour and am getting nowhere.

When i watch Pauls picture (i don't have the game in Mac-Edition), i would say:

3C 4C 5C 9C (2 columns free)
6D 7S 8D 7S 6D (3 columns free)
4H 5S (4 columns free)
TS JH QC JH TS (3 columns free)
8S 6C 7H 6C (2 columns free)
5D QD 2H ...

More i cannot do without playing it, but i would say, it must come out (from Pauls picture starting).

Paul, are my moves above right? (I did it without playing it, just from watching your picture.) Is it a solution?

this is the actual start of the game

I hope you agree, that doing it from the starting position without playing it, is a little bit hard. I don't have the game in Mac Edition. I just wanted to help Kathy, because she said after you have post your first picture, she have still difficulties. That's why i wanted to know, if my moves just in my head, would be successful.

Thanks Paul. That was some tricky maneuvering that I never would have thought of even after all these years of playing PGS. You are a master.

Try #1 and #4. Both winnable. Both difficult.

#2 looks winnable but I don't have much time just now. Too much work being done at home at present. Did you win it?

Would i ask? It looks at the first moment winnable, but the black jacks are in bad position and i don`t get enough columns free to use them then. I did not have such problems with #1 and #4. I can try again tomorrow at work with my PGS-trial-version. In Mac-Edition i don't have that game.

I'm pretty certain it is unwinnable Markus. If it was possible to take 5's back off the foundations I think we could win it.

I know, that i have needle, Thomas, but i don' t have Pitchfork, the game we talked above. I have already played Needle, but i prefer the harder one (Pitchfork).

Richard, I tried Pitchfork #1 and #4 but can't seem to get anywhere. Got any clues?
