I've got a bone to pick with you Kenneth my lad. You're trying to get me into trouble with Liz aint ya?. How can I be expected to attend to the garden when I'm stuck here trying to solve your game? Then you go and send me a link. It tells me that I need the latest Flash Player. The download tells me I need to turn of Chrome (which I only installed yesterday). There aint no on/off facility in Chrome. I figured out a way to get by it though. The trouble you cause!
Lynard Skynard eh? He must have learned to spell at the same skool at Mike. Ok he's pretty good, but is it C&W if you have to accompany it with rock music to make it palatable? Oooooh! Expect some flak Richard, expect some flak.
I've had you game up to 57 so far. Interesting. I'll work on it some more......later....after I make it look like I've been busy round here.

Hi
not my kind of music

I watched it "live" Paul. When she walked onto the stage she was being mocked by the audience simply because of the old-fashioned way she looked. The panel were very condescending and were prepared to write her off before she'd sung a single note. She deserved a public apology from the lot of them. She'll never be unemployed again, that's for sure.

back to solitaire

I think I have found a game of Double trigon that is not winnable. it looks like it is going to be easily solvable and all 8 aces go out but the diamonds cause a lot of trouble.

The second 2D is certainly in the last column so in order for 613029760 to be winnable you need to have the 4D or a 5D in the tableau somewhere. Otherwise it is impossible to get the second 3D in the last column to move anywhere. Totally unwinnable Paul

Somebody posted on another board that while Susan Boyle has a good voice, he didn't think she had a GREAT voice, and the only reason she is getting all this publicity is the voice being so incongruous from the face. Comments?

She hit the low notes dead on. She had no clunkers. Wasn't sharp or flat that I noticed. And handled the higher parts well. Having said that. There are lots of younger more attractive women who can do the same. She will be in demand for awhile. Then unless she gets a nod from musical theater she will be retired. When is her next appearance. I want to see if she has a makeover.

The raised eyebrows amongst the panel as she reached and conquered every high note in a difficult song proved to most people that she is fairly exceptional. I'd agree that her voice is incongruous with everything else. Being unemployed would mean that she's not had money to fritter away on clothes or having her hair restyled. Whatever the final outcome of the show, surely she will make enough money to set her up for life. She could undoubtedly sell CD's. Try listening to her singing without looking at the video. All she wants is to be a professional singer. Good luck to the woman. I'll let you know when she's back on TV. It will be all over Utube anyway.

Yep, I identified the 4D as the problem also. BTW, I went to dinner with a friend of mine last night who just got a job with Hilton International Hotels. She takes reservations from people in the UK. I asked her how it was going and she says for the most part the customers are nice but she can't understand half of them, especially the people from Scotland!

"American English".......Ay, there’s the rub, as your friend and mine, Willie Shakespeare once said. If you get a big English dictionary, you'll find that there are loads of words of Scottish origin in it. There are loads more which aren't even included. It's akin to censorship. It would be true to say that the Scots have a wider English vocabulary than the English, far less the Americans. Don't fret about it Mike. English speakers are in the minority where you live anyway......Es esto no verdad señor?
I suspect that Ken's friend's aural problem is connected to her mouth. She is too busy talking to make time to listen. She should spend a few weeks at Fraserburgh. That's where English can be heard in its purest and least polluted form.
Still no further forward with you game Ken. Have you made any progress?

As Rab would say, "I will tell you this boy", I have not been neglecting the garden, the rain has come to my rescue the last couple of days. The ground is too wet to walk on, but I've mended a fence, laid some concrete, erected a trellis for a Russian Vine, done some lawn levelling and pricked out some of my seedlings. I also did some rewiring indoors by taking a cable through the roof from the loft into our bedroom so Liz could watch TV in bed (and she didn't even need to ask). I've not been sitting here playing PGS all day. Just because it take SOME people all day to win a game......

OK, it didn't interfere with the other upload (which is still running I hope). I'm actually uploading a video of a PGS game I solved for Donna. I'm sticking it on Webshots where she can access it. I/we have given up on all other avenues. I just hope she can follow the moves as they are played. It's just an experiment.
Should I be indignant about the GI Joe thing? I don't know. I guess we've become so used it over the centuries that we just shake our heads in disbelief. I think Hollywood has had a go at everyone since its inception, including America. No big deal.
If you had trouble with #8, you'll not believe #10. I'm pretty sure it's unwinnable, but now I'm through with Donna's problem game I'll get back and have another go. Do you want the solution for #8 or a partial?
BTW, I phoned the Swine flu hotline today....... All I got was crackling....... OK, I thought it was funny.

To be honest Donna, I think I'd be cussing if I couldn't find something to cuss about. I'm actually disappointed when I visit the forum and find that there are no problem games waiting to be solved. I'll get back to your video today. It will have to concede defeat sooner or later.

Let me know if/when you need a partial for #9 Ken.

Game #10 is the worst yet. KenB (and anyone else for that matter) if you see this could you please have a go and tell me what your highest score is? I still think it's unwinnable but I'd like to think we gave it both barrels before we raised the white flag.

Not that I know you like to cuss, I can say this with impunity, right? The cards are blurry; there is also a glare obscuring the cards; and the animation speed is too high to follow it. But other than that, Mrs Lincoln liked the play.
P.S. I got #9. But you have me afraid to move on to #10!

The best I can get on #10 is 36. The problem are the TWO AS buried in the last column. If you concentrate on getting those out right away, you pass by a lot of lower cards, and if you concentrate on getting the lower cards into play, you can't un-bury the Aces!

Yes I agree with your observations re the uploaded vide0s. As I have no tripod the only way I could get the camera in the right place was fairly close up on a pile of books. In hindsight I should have angled the camera to avoid light bouncing into the lens. The animation speed would be less of a problem if you downloaded the files and clicked "pause" between each move. It's not bad for a firt effort. I will work on improvements.
Re #10, there is nothing to fear except fear itself. I'll be interested to see how you get on.

You don't have a tripod! What kind of photographer are you? I have three tripods. A monopod. And a dog who can manage the camera and keep it from moving. Also various lights and multiple flashes.
Good grief. Get with it. And I still can't get a good picture. (took that comment away from you, didn't I)

Richard, you did know you can adjust the animation speed in PGS itself, right? When you're making an instructional video you might want to set it for the slowest speed possible, and then re-up the speed when you go back to banging out all those wins. BTW, what's your highest score on #10?

The animation speed has no relevance Ken. The speed is dictated by me constantly hitting the redo button. Re my highest score for #10 ...... I asked first!
You have three tripods and a monopod Mike! Do you shake THAT much? Various lights and multiple flashes? Man you must have some job to afford all that.....dig,dig! (Didn't manage to take that one away from me). Not sure if a tripod would be much of an improvement in this instance. I need to be close enough to hit the redo button, and with their maximum file size I need to be able to switch the camera off pdq. And before you ask..... I don't have a video editor either.
Aint it time for walkies?

Congratulations Mike!
I plug the camera into the PC to upload the pics into it. I'll have to have a look at the manual to see what else it has up its sleeve. I was thinking about the "fuzzy2 aspect of the vids. Could this be because the camera was too close to the subject matter. Is there a macro function in the movie aspect too? Sigh. More aggro.

You may have to put the camera on manual focus. Any movement near the camera while it is on auto focus will cause the camera to refocus. I forget. Are you using your regular photo camera to take the video. My Nikon for whatever reason does not have video. But our little Fuji does. And that's the name of the camera brand. Not the name of a new dog. Although it would be a good name.

Ha! Well done with the 40 though Ken. It took me quite a while to get that far. I'd actually just come to the forum to upload my best partial. Critical cards are definitely the 3C and the 8H. I could get both of those, but the other critical one, the 10D eludes me. I can get it into the tableau OK but I've to sacrifice something else. See if you can pick any good moves from this upload Ken. As you'll see if the 10H was the top card on the waste I'd have had three columns clear. I doubt if it's winnable but I've not given up.

Just to follow up on that last point: If you remember, I lost all my previous stats when I bought a new computer a year and a half ago. I LOVED playing the really hard games, but I must be getting old because now I don't enjoy them as much. So instead of trying The Plot, I stepped down to Family Plot; instead of 7 Devils I stepped down to 7 Steps. They're still fun but now at least I have a chance of winning some. (BTW, speaking of 7 Devils, I noticed you're #2. Any thoughts of trying to be #1? It shouldn't be too hard for you!)

Richard, correct me if I'm wrong but I didn't see you move piles of cards, just single cards, so this would be winnable in 7 Devils then right? So this plus the one who previously won would put at the top of the leaderboard. (I know YOU don't care about your scores, but what about your acolytes? So, post it already!!)

Good chance Ken does too. Will be out soon shopping for new TV. Our old one went out yesterday. There goes my new set of golfing irons. Oh xxxx. Tomorrow is Mother's Day. My son doesn't have a card. Something else I have to do.

Shame about the TV Mike. It's ironic that Liz and I now have SIX TV's in good working order. We're giving three to a church charity shop just to get them out of our road. The U.K. is currently switching from analogue TV signals to digital ones. You've either got to buy a digibox converter for each set or buy a new TV that accepts digital transmissions. Make sure you get one that will be good with the newer technology Mike.
You need a set of new irons! As the name suggests, they are made from a very durable material. You're not hitting rocks with them are you mate? Temper, temper.
Your son is a plonker Mike. Any fool can get a card without leaving the house these days. You just need to let them know a day or three in advance. They even handwrite them and add your own personal message. Tell him to go and buy his own card. How old is he? Twelve? Tell him to take the dogs with him.

Ah Richard. You live in a dream world where kids do what you ask them to do. I will have to run out first thing in the morning to get a card.
We have a cable company providing our TV service. No worries with having converters and such. We have a brand new Samsung 52" HDTV. It looks really great. It was easy to set up. Running cables is never fun. But I got through it. As for the irons. I have dents in the ones I have and a large dent in my putter where it was accidentally tossed :-) at some rocks. Also some of them do not have the original shaft in them. Stuff happens.

Ah Mike. I live in the real world where kids are fast becoming an alien species. If you didn't get a card, who would get it in the neck? Michael from his mum, and you to some degree from him. You would then be in an ideal position to inform him if he wants to be treated like an adult he should try acting like one. A certain Scottish person went shopping for a special Christmas card a few years ago. He took the opportunity to buy sufficient cards to last several years. He takes one out of his secret stash each year and she is delighted than he has taken the time and the trouble to walk to the shops just for her. He repeated the exercise for Valentine's Day. We could all learn a lot from this wise one.
Refresh my memory. Just how long ago precisely was it that Debbie was ranting about spending too much money? 52" HDTV! Is that so you can still see it when you are in the dog-house?
This just in........."Golf club manufacturers caught positioning rocks at strategic points around H.B. golf courses." And you thought that putter wouldn't melt in their mouths.

My son the alien. To true. We have been planning on a new TV for a few months. The old one dying just made the decision for us. We did get some income tax money back. But I have no clue how she is planning on paying for it. We got a two year no interest lo-an. So I hope she makes the payments. I can indeed see the picture from my dog-house. Now if I could just watch what I want.

Liz is unable to walk and is in considerable pain Ken. She moves between rooms backwards in a sitting position. We've no idea how long so could be off work. We're praying it will be within the next 2 weeks. We are both concerned that her recovery comes before our next holiday which is booked to start on 3rd June.
The Donna vide-os were not a great success. In order to get any clarity I'd need to be able to enable macro and video at the same time. This does not appear to be possible. The only other way I could do it is to do a screen-shot after every single move and then assemble them in the movie maker software. It would take an enormous amount of time. Donna has moved on in any case.
BTW....video is OK, but not the plural!

Re watching what you want Mike, I used to have a Casio wristwatch. I could program it to switch channels, adjust volume etc. You need something similar. Small and discreet and your own little secret. I had an absolute riot with in in a local club. Amongst other things I put the TV on mute. The guy with the remote turned the volume up and up, and then I undid the mute. BOOM!

No problem Mike. I'll see it anon. BTW the collective noun for lawyers is an "eloquence". They have a high opinion of themselves it would appear. Maybe a "pride" would be more appropriate, like lions, because if there is any money on the go they take the lion's share. On the TV last night i heard something I'd never heard before. The "Angel's share". Apparently that is what they call the amount of whisky that evaporates out of the casks. In a year, the equivalent of 160 million bottles of single malts evaporate. Enough to make you weep. You'd think that some enterprising person would be working on a way to harvest this.

Alcohol evaporates at a lower temperature than water, so it comes off first. Similarly you can do the reverse by freezing. The water goes solid and the alcohol is left.

Well done Trisha! I was going to be tackling it again tonight. My PGS time is very limited just now and there is something more important I can attend to now thanks to your efforts. Certainly the worst Seven Steps I've played.
See if you can find us another one Ken.

Great job, Trisha!
Richard, is it possible for something to be more important than PGS?

Liz is making holiday noises as she's not at work anyway. I've got a lot of forward planning to get through PDQ. Loads of maps to print off. It didn't help when my best source of maps dried up without notice. I've also got a greenhouse full of young plants to get sorted out and planted before we leave. We almost got finished with mum's house today. A bunch of people from mum's church came over and practically emptied it. Liz can drive again now so I'm catching up with some other stuff that got backed up. The biggest drain on my time just now is/has been caused by a neighbour. Hoping that will come to a head pdq. Will email you and Mike then.

Trisha, of all the opening plays you could have done, who would have thought about bringing out the QS from the reserve???
Very impressive win!!

I was playing another game of 7 Steps and it seemed like it would be easy because it was tantalizingly close, but I didn't want to post another one after just posting this past one. But after playing it for hours, I couldn't take it anymore, so I came to post it and I realized that I had been playing #21 AGAIN and I didn't even realize it. I think Richard needs to take me on one of his MANY holidays because obviously I need one!

You can post as many numbers as you want Ken, (with the exception of #21 again). I for one am disappointed when nobody posts a problem game. I'm sure other players feel the same. There has hardly been a post for days. BORING!
I've been researching the Borders area for our impending holiday. I've whittled roughly 350 castles and gardens etc down to about 70. Those are condensed onto 46 maps. I've now got to print them all off, and then cross reference them onto our road map. By the time I get our holiday sorted out it's me who's in need of one. It's a LOT of work. BTW the large scale map has PH (public house) dotted all over it. Maybe in a year or two when we run out of castles and things we'll make that our next project.

A forum ceases to be a forum if it's not used Mike. You shouldn't take it to heart if an odd person complains about our posts. As Ken so rightly pointed out, there is a very simple solution. Whilst emails are OK, it's not really possible to conduct a three or four way conversation/discussion using that medium. Why deprive yourself of a bit of harmless fun? I'm sure that Ken would miss your input as much as me.

Like Smokey Robinson said, "I second that emotion!" Plus if you leave, who'll keep Richard in line? It's at least a two-person job!

Donna PLEASE! You'll inflate our hat sizes and just encourage us! We're probably bad enough already. In the interests of equilibrium and world peace I would like to point out that I do have sympathy for Jerri. I'm sure that she was unaware that our inane babblings could be curtailed by doing what Ken suggested, just unchecking the automatic email option. I would also like to point out to all and sundry that I used to have ENORMOUS problems with emails, so much so that I wouldn't divulge my email address to anyone. This problem can easily be rectified by installing Spam Fighter (or similar). Spam Fighter is free. It's very effective and will chop your spam count down to practically zero. It also has the added bonus that you can educate it to blacklist anyone who is bugging you, including yours truly.

Yes, I had forgotten about the preferences, so I went to that screen, and unchecked "General Discussion". That seemed to be a great solution: I would not receive emails from that venue, and I could continue to receive emails about games! Today, I came home, and there were a whole lot of non-game emails under "Is it Winnable", 7 Steps. Sigh..........

I'm certain that none of us want to irritate anyone. As I am the biggest culprit, please accept my apologies.
I have NEVER had an email from the Forum. It wasn't until comparatively recently that I found out that such a service exists. Ken and Mike were equally surprised. We must have opted out without even knowing we'd done so. Perhaps at some point in time you had to opt in.
There must be a solution that suits everyone. I created a new folder in my Windows Mail and instructed Internet Explorer to put all incoming messages from a particular person into it. It's nobody from PGS, I assure you. This uncluttered my mail and allowed me to read those particular messages when I had more time on my hands. They invariably contained pictures and/or video footage so they could a bit overwhelming at times.
The Spam Fighter program is my favourite. You can create your own blacklists and whitelists. It is brilliant and very effective. Please let us know how you're getting on.

No problem. We all registered a long time ago. I like getting emails about postings, because I may find a new game I'd like to play; there may be a new beta test, which I enjoy; someone else may ask game questions I can answer; etc. On the preferences screen,I had opted out of any emails about Download Problems, PGMJ and Mac. As I said, I have unchecked "General Discussion", and will never get any emails on that. Use that for your personal exchanges, and only those who choose to read them will get them. Thanks, Jerri
