I am beginning to think that Spider Solicaire is not winable. I've been playing it now for about 6 months and the highest score I could get is 69 points. I've played many other games of Solicaire and have master all expect this Spider,.. I honestly DO NOT think it is a legitate game.

Spider two-suit is a tough nut but most games are winnable. I play it often (over 3000 total games) with a win ratio of about 97.4%. I went through much frustration, however.I suspect the same experience lies ahead of you.

Fact is, I simply didn't belicve that a win ratio of at much as 50% was possible when I first started playing this clever and devious game.

Hi Sheila,

#531 I don't think it winnable, you've stumbled across the rare unwinnable game I think. I prefer playing Beetle, because there are no uncovered cards at the start, so you can make better moves at the start. Mrs Mop and simple simon are two other good spider type games.

How is it possible for people to get 100% win rate on Spider Two with thousands of games? Is it possible to cheat on the statistics in the game? Is it possible that people cheated when uploading their particular statistics?
I have been playing Spider for years, have thousands of games under me and I think I'm quite good - but cannot get over 50% win rate.

Believe it or not, it is possible to get a 100% win rate on Spider Two!
The only trick is to think that ALL games can be won and keep trying ...
Some games took me around 20 hours to solve!
I would rate the difficulty of the game #531 as 4 out of 10 (it took me about 1 hour to solve).

Here is the beginning of the solution, if somebody asks for more I will give the end ...

9 of Clubs --> 10 of Diamonds
8 of Clubs --> 9 of Clubs
7 of Spades --> 8 of Clubs
2 of Hearts --> 3 of Clubs
Queen of Hearts --> King of Hearts

Distribution

8 of Diamonds --> 9 of Spades
10 of Hearts --> Jack of Diamonds
9 of Diamonds --> 10 of Diamonds
8 of Diamonds --> 9 of Diamonds
7 of Diamonds --> 8 of Diamonds
As of Spades --> 2 of Clubs
As of Spades --> 2 of Hearts

Distribution

3 of Hearts --> 4 of Hearts
9 of Spades --> 10 of Spades
Jack of Diamonds --> Queen of Hearts
10 of Diamonds --> Jack of Diamonds

Distribution

6 of Clubs --> 7 of Clubs
8 of Spades --> 9 of Spades
7 of Clubs --> 8 of Spades
4 of Clubs --> 5 of Clubs
7 of Spades --> 8 of Hearts
5 of Diamonds --> 6 of Clubs

Thanks Jacques, I was quite surprised when I saw
# 531, a seemingly unwinnable spider 2 suit game considering I've never lost a game of proper spider. If you don't mind me asking, how do you know that spider 2 suit is 100% solvable? Do you have a reference?

Actually, not every game of Spider Two Suits is solvable. Just like regular Spider, it is possible to construct games that are not solvable. However, unsolvable games are rare in Spider.

To have an unsolvable game, the final deal would have to block the game (no possible moves). It's easy to construct such a deal, but in practice it doesn't happen often.

First, I made a stupid mistake !
The solution I gave for the game 531 was for normal Spider, not Spider Two Suits ...
So, here is the beginning of the solution for Spider Two Suits Game 531

7 of Hearts --> 8 of Hearts
7 of Spades --> 8 of Spades
7 of Hearts --> 9 of Hearts
9 of Hearts --> 10 of Hearts
2 of Hearts --> 3 of Hearts
Queen of Hearts --> King of Hearts
2 of Hearts (col 2) --> 3 of Spades
4 of Hearts --> 5 of Hearts (col 5)
3 of Hearts --> 4 of Hearts

Distribution

8 of Spades --> 9 of Spades
10 of Hearts --> Jack of Spades
9 of Spades (col 10) --> 10 of Spades
As of Spades (col 10) --> 2 of Hearts
7 of Spades --> 8 of Spades
4 of Hearts --> 5 of Spades (col 3)

Distribution

3 of Hearts (col 4) --> 4 of Hearts
2 of Hearts --> 3 of Hearts (col 3)
3 of Spades --> 4 of Spades
6 of Hearts --> 7 of Hearts
10 of Hearts (col 4) --> Jack of Spades
6 of Hearts --> 7 of Spades
5 of Hearts --> 6 of Hearts

Distribution

6 of Hearts (col 10) --> 7 of Hearts
7 of Spades --> 8 of Spades
5 of Spades --> 6 of Hearts

Thomas,
I know that not all games are solvable but at least for regular spider, I don't find it easy to construct such a game (even if you put the 8 Kings in the last deal, what should be the other 2 cards ?) and I would like to know one.

If you had 8 kings in the last deal, then the other 2 cards could be Jacks. There would be nothing you could play. Actually, the other two cards could be any two cards that cannot be played on Kings or each other and then the game would be unsolvable.

Well If the two other cards are Jacks you just need to get the proper queens below. What I really mean is that an unsolvable game must be built from the first deal and I am not sure it's easy.

Hello Molly

I find spider games are not my favourites at all having won just 2 and not playing it for over 2 years and there are many variables
we came across a seemingly impossible game but this after many tries did come out so it could be that a lot of trial and error is needed and most games can possibly be won
The number is 1333075456 and I have a listing of all the moves needed to come out if you would like them.
The other one I won was game 1741580800

regards Paul

Thanks Paul. I'd like to play game 1333075456 ... (or a game that I know for sure can be won) ... but I can't figure out how to access particular games. I don't think that is possible in the version of Spider that I have. Are there different versions?

Hi Molly

are you using Pretty Good Solitaire?
if not i would fully recommend it having been using it for over 6 years daily
if you using Pretty Good Solitaire the Game is called spider not spider 4 suits but is the 4 suit version and you just open the spider game hit select type in the number you want ie 1333075456 and hit the button below and you are in the same game as any body else who has played this game number
