Thanks. A very frustrating game. No wonder so few people have played it. But I'm determined to see it through until I can get as far as I can go. Would you believe someone won 1000 games with 0 losses?

No I wouldn't believe it personally. It seems far more likely that all of their losers are under a different player name.

Just wait until your eyesight goes mate, then try perching at the top of a ladder trying to paint a straight line at arms length without encroaching on a dado rail. Then you will do what I did. Down tools and go to the pub to consider the alternatives.

You didn't know I could do impressions, did you? That's my impression of the Temperance Seven. BTW, you should get one of their hits played as a request on your local radio for your folks...... "You, you're driving me crazy"

I saw an interview they did in the 60's. The band leader was asked about their name as there were nine in the group.
His response, "Because we were one over the eight at the time.", was top notch reparte.

Tape off the area you don't want to paint. They should have some blue tape at that new DIY store. Or just go ahead and spray the whole area. Gee I am a cornucopia of good ideas this morning.

I bet you can see better than I can. In order to see anything correctly, I have to close one eye and then I can see with the other eye. BTW, I never heard of Temperance 7. Was that before or after my time? I'm in the Beatle's generation.

The blue masking tape works better than the old type of masking tape. As for your eyes. If you can still see the barmaid exactly as she is suppose to look with no drinks after four drinks. Everything is fine.

I had a roll of the cream coloured stuff Mike, but the roof is the same colour so I couldn't really see if it was going on in the right place. The blue Pro stuff should be much better. Re the barmaid.......she is, how can I put this?......circumferentially challenged! Kathy would have no trouble seeing her. God knows what she would look like if you had double vision. It would be like an eclipse.

I hope you fare better at the dentist that I did. The work she did was pretty painful but not as painful as the bill. Estimated to be about $880. Yesterday my glasses cost $554. What a rip off.

I can't believe it. Here I was worried about how to come up with $100 for the dentist, and your bill was that high! Over here, for that amount, I could have 8 x-rays and 8 teeth pulled. Also, for an eye exam and glasses, it would approximately cost no more than $200. You have my sympathies.

UK dentists are extremely unlikely to pull a tooth. She undertook some root canal work today as an abscess had started to develop. That cost about $200. Most of the rest of the cash will be for having a porcelain crown made and fitted. It's an incisor so it has to be done properly.
Finding a National Health dentist is very difficult in our area, that why I was forced to go private.

I see now your situation. Since my dentist knows I have only a limited amount of money, he knows it is better to have a tooth pulled, because he knows I could never afford to have any other kind of work done. The problem is I'm running out of teeth. Medicare doesn't pay anything at all for dentistry and for optometry, which is strange since when people start getting older, their teeth and eyes are two things that start going bad first. That's life. However, I can still smile without being embarrassed.

I have had debates with Markus regarding how quickly he plays some of his games. I tend to look at them carefully for a minute or two and try to figure out my strategy. Then I play them until I hit a stopper. This way I find out which cards are causing the most trouble and then backtrack until I get an opportunity to shift them. Perhaps you need to slow down a bit and try to figure out how to get the blockers shifted. But, as I never tire of saying, it's only a game. It really doesn't matter if you win or lose. Just enjoy the challenge.

Kathy, it is no trouble whatsoever. I enjoy playing PGS, and I like Haystack. Most of the ones you've posted have been challenging. Some have been impossible and I've found a few have been fairly easy. Other people might have a lot of trouble with the last group. It makes no difference how good or bad you are at this. It's a hobby. Just take some satisfaction with the ones you do win.
I'm quite good at crosswords, but often I won't be able to solve some clues. The following day I will pick it up again and finish it in no time flat. It's not because there was something wrong with me the previous day. It is simply because whether I was aware of it or not, I was fixated on one train of thought and did not consider other options.

That is what is happening with the current game I'm playing. Every way I play it, I always have 8 cards in the reserves, and if I can just get one card down, I can get somewhere. So, I'm going to put off playing the game for a day or two or else try it every other game I play and see how that works. I know it's just a game, but part of the fun for me is winning. I couldn't just play, like my sister does, to pass the time, etc. BTW, I love crosswords and the harder the better.

Can you do anything with 1657354495? Is it just my imagination, or is scoring different for different games? I can have a winning streak of 10+ games in Haystack and get my score really bounced down if I lose a game no matter how many points I get for that game. But it seems in other games, if I lose one game it doesn't make that drastic of a difference. It may just be my imagination, though. This game is making me frustrated. I wish I could find another game as interesting and as challenging as this one or others I've played, but so far no luck.

With 1657354495 you can clear the stock with just 11 moves! It must be easy to win.
The number of points you score with Haystack should have very little effect on your standing in the stats.

I don't understand what you are saying Kathy. What dropped by 9 points? The percentage is the most variable. Losing a game can drop that dramatically. If you had 100.00 straight wins it would be 100% but you just need to lose one game for it to drop to 99.00. If you win the next game it win only rise extremely slightly. I think you mean it dropped by 0.9 as opposed to 9.0. Watch your average score.

I think I understand what you mean. My percentage was 86.97%, I lost one game and it went to 86.98 (0.9). I just don't remember other games (like Tuxedo) being so hard in advancing my percentage. It seems like I will never get to 90% which is my goal. BTW, my average score is 46.

Unless you've just made a typing error the maths don't add up. I still can't see where you are getting 0.9 from. The second figure is higher than the first one.
Anyway, it's now after 1am. I'm off to bed.

If you want to work out the percentages for yourself, this is how you do it.
"Total Winners" divided by "Total played" multiplied by 100.
Here are examples of that. Note how dramatically winning or losing a game changes the percentage.

In my table three consecutive losers dropped the percentage from 86.99 down to 86.85, a drop of 0.14. However if you'd won the three games it would have risen from 86.99 to 87.09, a rise of 0.10.
Losing a game has more effect on the percentage than winning a game.
What you score whilst winning or losing a game has no bearing on the percentage whatsoever.

Thank you so much for the clarification. I didn't know that losing has more effect than winning. That's why I can't seem to get anywhere in the stats, because no matter how many I win, there's always that loser that takes me down. I've decided from now on just to play the game for fun while in the meantime looking for another one that I like.
