Perish the thought but I had the chance to play the "Solsuite" version which for my tired old eyes was easier to play. The foundations were sorted by rank. Much better than the PGS display.

I can see your point, in a sense - it would be a little easier to see if a particular rank has already been played to one of the upper foundations.

But when I play Osmosis and similar games, and am able to play a card onto any foundation (other than the lowest one, of course), I'm more interested in "What am I looking for next?". The current chronological order of the foundations is useful because I can easily see what's gone onto any foundation most recently. And it's usually those most recent cards that determine game play.
