That concludes the D's although Dental D-Day Dismay begins at 9.30am tomorrow, then Extortionate Extraction Ensues.

£500 to remove one tooth !!! Just as well I finished all the B's and C's already. Mind you, the multifunctional F is still available.

  • GOOD LUCK!!!

  • Best sentence I've heard in a long time ....... "Well that went a lot better than expected". (Dentist to me following extraction today). Total cost £200 instead of the predicted £500. 😊

  • How was/is the pain level?

  • Practically nil Ken even several hours after the event. The guy stitched the gum together over the hole where the tooth had ben. Particularly necessary as I am on Clopidogrel blood thinner. The dentist was a nice young Malaysian guy about 30 years old. He "only takes teeth out" at the hospital. Doesn't do "repairs". 🙂

  • I had an implant put in recently, and I was obviously concerned about it. And my dentist says to me you’ve already had a tooth pulled out; that’s the worst thing that a dentist can do to you, so you’ll survive this! Lol.

  • I think that most kids in the UK prayed that a visit to a dentist would result in an extraction rather than a filling. It wasn't unknown for some of them/us to deliberately avoid going to the dentist if a filling had come out, and to wait until part of the shell of the tooth snapped away first, thus making it impossible to refill. Back in the day, dental drills were powered by a procession of cords, each one increasing the overall speed. It was noisy and vibrated as it ground away at the tooth. There was zero anaesthetic available for fillings.

"Scottish darts legend Jocky Wilson habitually consumed sweets and generally refused to brush his teeth, stating: "My Gran told me the English poison the water". He had lost his last tooth by the age of 28. Following his 1982 World title win, he paid £1,200 for dentures, but later complained that the dentures made him belch when drinking. He died age 62"..
